Research enthusiasts watch out! With our Winglet Journal Club partner edition in cooperation with Enovis/Mathys, we offer a unique digital format for the critical appraisal and discussion of the publication "Calcar-Guided Short-Stem Total Hip Arthroplasty in Fractures of the Femoral Neck: A Prospective Observational Study of 68 Hips" (Kutzner et al., 2024) published at the beginning of the year.

The topic has been structurally summarized in a standardized video format by first author Professor Karl Philipp Kutzner. Following the idea "First the facts - then the discussion", you can watch, pause and repeat the video summary in our online live center on the day of the event from 19:00 CET onwards. Afterwards, join the live discussion via Zoom between 19:15 - 20:00 CET hosted by Professor Karl Philipp Kutzner.

Both active participants and listeners are welcome! Expand your professional knowledge and network by actively participating in the discussion or tune in to just listen after a long day to stay up to date. To participate, simply log into the Zoom conference under the “Breakouts” section in the online live center (below the video).

If you cannot take part in the live discussion, there is the option of holding a Journal Club as usual with colleagues in the clinic, practice or at home whenever your time allows, using the permanently available video summary.

Research enthusiasts watch out! With our brand-new Winglet Journal Club in cooperation with the German Young Forum O and U, we offer a unique digital format for the critical appraisal and discussion of the most recent scientific publications in the field of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery.

Under the scientific guidance of Julian Marques and selected members from the Young Forum, some of the latest, most significant research papers are chosen and structurally summarized in a standardized video format. Always on a Monday, we invite you to participate in a captivating, live virtual discussion with international colleagues of varying seniority.

Following the idea "First the facts - then the discussion", you can watch, pause and repeat the video summary in our online live center on the day of the event from 19:00 CET onwards. Afterwards, join the live discussion via Zoom between 19:15 - 20:00 CET hosted by one member of the scientific organization and two renowned international panel experts.

We look forward to exciting discussions with you!

The post-live version can be purchased at a ticket price of € 0.99.

Event Details

In many places, the clinical situation differs greatly between the U.S. and Europe, and indeed between individual countries in Europe. Nevertheless, studies and registries worldwide seem to agree that cemented hip stem fixation offers numerous advantages for elderly patients in both elective and acute (femoral neck fractures) hip arthroplasty. Let's take a deeper look at the existing evidence and clinical situation.

We are thrilled to present a multi-hub education event that examines the value of cemented HIP stem fixation in detail from a transatlantic perspective. Our experts Thorsten Gehrke and Nils Hailer from Europe and Ran Schwarzkopf and Richard Illgen from the U.S. discuss how this data can be interpreted and what a patient-oriented protocol can look like.

Besides contributions from our live faculty, the program includes statements from renowned experts from different countries and regions to see what the clinical reality looks like and what needs to be done to manage the change of practice. Finally, the session will look at the role of education in this process and offer tips for a reproducible methodical cementing technique and to overcome concerns.

Focus of the event is the discussion among experts from both sides of the Atlantic, but the event will also include short lectures, instructional videos and much more. You will have the possibility to interact via chat and polls to give your opinions and ask questions.

The livestream and the post-live version are free of charge.

CME Certification:
"The Value of Cemented Hip Stem Fixation" made available on this website and organized by Winglet Education GmbH is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) to provide the following CME activity for medical specialists.

Only those e-learning materials that are displayed on the UEMS-EACCME® website have formally been accredited.

EACCME® credits:
The delivery of the certificate of attendance is linked to the completion of an evaluation form and self-assessment component. The CME provider must define the criteria for passing the test. The EACCME® awards ECMEC®s on the basis of 0,5 ECMEC® for 30 minutes of CME with a maximum of 3 ECMEC®s per module. cf. Chapter XIV of UEMS 2023.08.

For Physicians from the US
Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at https://edhub.ama-assn.org/pages/applications.

Information regarding the conversion of EACCME® credits:
Credit will be converted based on one (1) hour of participation equalling one credit for all activities. Physicians wishing to convert EACCME® credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ will be required to access the AMA website at https://edhub.amaassn.org/pages/applications to obtain the necessary paperwork and instructions. Physicians and other healthcare professionals will be required to pay a processing fee to the AMA.
