Hip arthroplasty has a high standard all around the world and is one of the most successful surgical procedures. While population is becoming older more and more patients decide for a hip replacement with increasing expectations for sustainability of the solution.
In cooperation with PALACADEMY®, the learning and knowledge platform for bone and joint surgery by Heraeus Medical, we present a multi-hub event which raises the question how to improve hip arthroplasty outcome in osteoarthritis and hip fracture patients. The international faculty will take a deeper look at different patient groups and their specific situation with a special focus on local demographics and clinical practice in Southeast Asia.
The best possible outcome for the patient is the main goal for every surgeon in arthroplasty. But how can we achieve this? An international faculty of Asian and European arthroplasty experts will share their experiences and assess options to reduce the risk for complications like periprosthetic fractures or periprosthetic joint infections. Besides contributions from our live experts the program includes short lectures by Gerogios Chatziagorou and Mike Reed. Let’s discuss which patients benefit from cemented fixation or which advantages local antibiotics in the bone cement offer to the patient.

Can the success of arthroplasty procedures be further improved? New concepts to prevent periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) are considered promising, even if there’s no international consensus yet. Let’s take a deeper look by connecting international evidence with local experiences at the practice of PJI prevention.
In cooperation with PALACADEMY®, the learning and knowledge platform for bone and joint surgery by Heraeus Medical, we present a multi-hub event which looks at Prevention of Periprosthetic Joint Infection with bone cement in Italy. Experts from Italy raise the question: What could be improved? Supported by international experts sharing their own data in short guest lectures, the Italian faculty discusses the state of the art and experiences in their own clinical practice.
What is the situation in Italy? How can risk for infection be defined? Which patients need special consideration? How many revisions are truly aseptic? What is the role of dual antibiotic-loaded bone cements?
Please note that the event will be held in Italian language.

Recent publications emphasize benefits of dual antibiotic loaded bone cement (ALBC) with antibiotic combinations in infection prevention. But how about the septic situation? Do we also have new insights here? What is standard and what can be improved?
In cooperation with PALACADEMY®, the learning and knowledge platform for bone and joint surgery by Heraeus Medical, we present a multi-hub event, which takes a closer look at insights from the French experience. Experts from France discuss the “Rational use of (double) antibiotic loaded bone cement in revision” by sharing their own clinical data, summarizing existing evidence and discussing their concepts.
Why are antibiotic combinations necessary in septic situations and which combinations to choose? What is the benefit of targeted local antibiotic therapy, and when is broad-spectrum prophylaxis more effective? How to differentiate between superinfection and recurrent infection, and what is the best strategy to prevent re-revision? Are there special patient groups or procedures, where dual ALBC is recommended?
Please note that the event will be held in French language.

With our ScienceCasts we present a special video format on Winglet: Current scientific topics are summarized by dedicated colleagues and discussed in terms of their value for clinical practice - well-founded, vivid and compact.
In the series “Myths and truths about antibiotic-loaded bone cement” launched by PALACADEMY®, the learning and knowledge platform for bone and joint surgery by Heraeus Medical, Volker Alt discusses the current status and new publications with his guest experts. The first episode focusses on the evidence for the use of single and dual-loaded ALBC. Is there a benefit? Can ALBC reduce the rates of Periprosthetic Joint Infections? Recent studies and papers are presented, analyzed and interpreted in the scientific context. Enjoy a differentiated dialogue in a highly efficient short video format and stay up-to-date.
